The Corporate Classroom of the Future (NOW)

We’ve previously discussed how big of a challenge it can be for businesses to keep pace with the rapidly evolving Learning and Development landscape. The latest technology and personal learning experiences have completely changed individual expectations of the corporate classroom. When your trainees are stuck viewing outdated learning content and formats, their experience as a consumer has conditioned them to expect more from that experience. And as those expectations have already outpaced the realities of the corporate training experience, it is even more important for businesses to invest in modernizing their corporate classrooms.
Here’s a peek at what the “new classroom” of the future really looks like when you bring it into the present.

What Worked in the Past May Not Work Today, and That’s OK
It’s no longer good enough for companies to rely exclusively on traditional print and instructor-led learning formats. Companies who refuse to innovate digitally will inevitably be disrupted to their disadvantage. Those who continue to rely only on the traditional, outdated learning methodologies and technologies will lose talent and market share and will eventually lose out to competitors.
Virtual Reality
Given the widespread use of virtual meeting technology and the ability to connect easily with colleagues across offices, it makes so much sense that more and more instructor-led, live classroom courses will convert to virtual instructor-led training. It’s a perfectly viable option if you are already invested in video conference technology (which you should be). In a similar way, virtual instructor-led training (or vILT) offers cost savings while retaining the live connection to instructors and peers that has proven to be so successful over the years.
Mobile Learning
Whether it fits our traditional concept of learning or not, mobile learning is becoming more and more important. Whether completely replacing or acting as a supplemental tool for learning content, mobile learning is here to stay and will continue to evolve. L&D professionals can either embrace it or allow the opportunity to pass them by. In fact, it has already seen proven value when incorporated into the vILT training method mentioned above, as facilitators push content, games, or networking activities directly to learners via their phones, converting mobile devices into a learning tool rather than a distraction. This style of blended learning provides a wide variety of opportunities for trainers, learners, and peers to connect and engage with the material they are charged with internalizing in modern and relevant ways.
Artificial Intelligence
Whether we are aware of it or not, AI is increasingly becoming a more influential part of our lives. It is changing how we shop, how we communicate, how we obtain information, and how our learning programs are built. Companies should not underestimate the impact of AI in the L&D space. It provides the intuitive and customized learning experiences that have proven to be more successful in the modern age.
